Obituary

Dorothy W. Berger, formerly of Aberdeen, died Sept. 27th at Abbey Manor of LaPlata in Charles County, MD. She was 97. Born in Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of the late William F. Berger Sr. and Wilhelmina Vogt Berger. She was a member or St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Aberdeen, MD and was their historian at one time. "Dottie" as she was affectionately known about town, hosted many canasta and bridge card parties at her home on W. Bel Air Ave. Family said she enjoyed cooking holiday dinners, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, when everyone was able to get together to visit. She was an avid bird watcher, bird seed being a staple on her grocery list. She loved flowers, especially daisies. She once had a kitten she named Daisy. She was very patriotic. She arranged to have a flagpole set up in front of the W. Bel Air Ave. home so she could display her beloved American flag. She successfully campaigned to have a flagpole erected at Abbey Manor. She taught three generations of Aberdeen residents in her kindergarten that was located in the old USO building. She really loved working with children. Ms. Berger also loved Aberdeen very much and she missed the town and her many mends when she had to move five years ago. She was kept up-to-date on local news by phone calls, visits, cards and letters from Aberdeen. She also listened to her radio everyday. "AA batteries" became a regular item on her shopping list. May each of you find comfort in knowing that God is "near to those that are broken at heart: and those who are crushed in spirit he saves." (Psalm 34:18) Take care,

Dorothy, her sister and two brothers were terrific neighbors during the many years we lived in the house across Baltimore Street from each other in Aberdeen. My children all enjoyed that foursome so much. We shared a mutual friend, Mabel Stansbury who originally worked for my parents in our house and later worked for the Bergers over many years. Surely they are all enjoying a marvelous reunion.
