Sharon and Patrick, Butch was a dear friend. We shared a lot of good times together both in the army and as civilians. He was so devoted and worked so hard to make things right during his time as a government civilian, constantly facing the bureaucratic red tape of the government. He was truly an inspiration to so many people. The more I got to know him, the more I saw what a big heart he had. I will miss him terribly. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Sharon, I'm so grateful that I was able to spend time with you and Butch both here in Fort Wayne as well as in Pittsburgh. I will treasure my memories of Butch dancing and hiking, and all of the fun we had together both then as well as in years past. He was an incredibly strong and resilient man, and showed such grace in the face of adversity. Patrick, your father's love for you was readily evident when we last spoke. He was so very proud of you. I will keep you both - along with Butch's extended family - in my thoughts and prayers.
