Obituary
Havre de Grace – Dorothy "Dottie" Taylor, a long-time resident of Harford County, died Wednesday the 14th of October at Citizen's Care Center, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She passed following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Born at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, DC on July 4, 1934, she graduated from Aberdeen Senior High School.
Dottie met her husband, Benjamin "Bunky" Taylor, while she was in high school. They married soon after graduation and began a whirlwind of travel associated with his choice to join the Navy. Following his service to the United States, the couple settled in Aberdeen where they both found employment. Dottie worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground providing support services as a civilian employee. They began to build a family in 1962 with the birth of their first child, Terri and then Linda was born four years later.
Dottie shared her love of horses with everyone she came in contact with over the years of her life. She mentored her daughters as they learned how to become skilled riders. Her passion for horses ranged from participating in the sport of dressage, stadium jumping and cross country to an active appreciation of horse racing and rodeo. The Preakness and barrel racing were horse events that could spark loud "whoops" of excitement from Dottie.
Another interest was for birds and wildlife. She provided a sanctuary in the backyard complete with birdseed and a bath worthy of her avian friends. The only outsiders to the party were the squirrels, which she pelted with water bottles if they dared invade the yard!
Dottie was an avid gardener and nurturer of fish. Her knack with growing vegetables and berries led to a harvest worthy of her outstanding canning skills. Winter was full of summer grown goodness as her family was treated to the harvest of her garden. These nurturing ways extended to her interest in raising Siamese betta fish. These special fish responded so well to her care that she was able to provide the offspring to a local pet shop.
She is survived by her daughters, Terri who resides in Perry Hall and Linda of Columbia Beach, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bunky, her dogs Missy, Sam and Sam and Alladdin the horse.

To Dottie's family, I extend my deepest sympathy and sorrow for your lost. We've known one another since high school starting by playing against each other at rival schools - she from Aberdeen and I from HdeG. We double-dated with she and Bunk. We lived in Aberdeen sharing an alley way between our houses. She and Bunk looked over our son Michael as he slept while I was at the hospital delivering our daughter Sharon. Wonderful people, loving, dear friends. Bunk has been gone for more than 2 years and they missed each other. Dottie is at peace. She and Bunk are now together again just as they have wanted to be.
