Obituary

Eugene “No Middle Name” Solonka Jr., May 16, 1961-July 9, 2025, will be deeply missed by his lifelong pitcrew–his mother, Carol Triplett; his “Earnhardt” of kids, Tabetha, Tarrah, and Eugene III; and his precious grandkids, Benjamin and Lilyan. Eugene also leaves behind a big, extended family of siblings–Steve Solonka, Jean Place, Jenny Solonka, James Solonka, and William Little; countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who turned into family. His energy was contagious, his laugh unforgettable, and his love for others ran deep.

If you ever met Eugene, you know he had a special way of making people feel like they belonged. Whether you'd known him for years or just met him once, he made you smile. To him, no one was a stranger, only a friend he hadn’t met yet.

He lived life in the fast lane, chased fun, lived free, and did things his way, always. A true NASCAR enthusiast, especially #3 Dale Earnhardt. Gene found freedom and thrill behind the wheel and was always going after the next adventure. He loved traveling, being on the water, boating, fishing, riding motorcycles, and he never passed up a scratch-off ticket, poker game, or round of pool, win or lose. He was a father to every kid, and if snowballs were around, he was treating. His stories, laughs, and love that h

New Eugene from high school, back in 78 he was working for richerson flowers on belair ave my family moved to Germany as my father was in the army and I stayed in Aberdeen , he would pick me up in his work van and delivery flowers, we would catch a buzz and he would keep us laughing the whole time, didn’t see him much after that, but if you were fortunate enough to know him you would never forget him. I'm really sorry to hear of Eugene's passing & send my condolences out to the Solonka family. I knew Eugene for many years, through high school and he grew up close to where I grew up and I would run into him every so often & we talked just like it was an everyday thing although sometimes it would be years before I would run into him again. Very sad to hear he is gone.May you rest in peace My friend. Cheryl(Reckenberger) Thompson

Eugene and I became friends as young kids back in Perryville when he lived in what was known as French town, near the Susquehanna River and close to being under the bridge. As lots of us do Eugene and his family moved to the Aberdeen area and we saw each other very occasionally. Years had passed and then one day or shall I say night Gene and I were working together on the night shift at Bata shoe on Route 40 in Belcamp. I was still living in Perryville and Gene was in Edgewood. Lots of stories and memories from there but it saddens me that we lost touch from each other once I was laid off from there and never reconnected. Rest easy old friend and to your family I offer my condolences and prayers. Thom
