Obituary

Ruth Hiob Sissom, 92, entered into our Lord's embrace on August 15, 2016, at home in Port Deposit, Maryland with family by her side. She was born November 9, 1923 in Baltimore City, Maryland to the late Charles G. Hiob Sr. and Bertha Kreafle Hiob. Ruth, as a young woman attended Eastern High School and Strayer Business School. She then relocated to Aberdeen, where she would later meet and marry Billy D. Sissom Sr., a dashing young Second Lieutenant from Texas, stationed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Ruth was a devoted mother and wife, raising their two children, Billy Jr. and Janis Kay. She was known to be a nurturing authority figure to scores of her children's friends that made the Sissom residence a second home and was fondly referred to as "Sugarbabe." She came to know the Lord in her teens and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 75 years, serving Him by teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Women's Circles and participating in many church-related committees and activities. Ruth and Bill enjoyed many activities in their spare time including square dancing, a hobby that over the years allowed them to make friends far and wide. This camaraderie of friends eventually fulfilled their aspiration of a nine month RV tour throughout Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Ruth loved to travel, visiting Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hawaii, Alaska and the Caribbean Islands. Following retirement, Ruth and Bill took up residence in Naples, Florida and became the ultimate snowbirds, returning to their Aberdeen roots for 5 months each summer. They would visit family and friends and enjoy a respite from the Florida temperatures. Ruth was an avid Orioles fan, watching and tracking the scores for every game even up until her last days. She will be fondly remembered as loving, compassionate and generous to family, friends, and all who knew her; a rare, gentle spirit that will be dearly missed. Ruth is survived by her children, Billy D. Sissom Jr. of Lake Mary, FL and Janis S. Price of Port Deposit, MD; grandchildren Rebecca M. Price of Englewood, FL, Tara Sissom of Sacramento, CA and Connor Sissom of Lake Mary, FL; and great grandchildren Samuel De Los Santos and Amelia Price both of Englewood, FL. Ruth is survived by a brother, George C. Hiob of Chincoteague, VA. and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Billy D. Sissom Sr. of Port Deposit, MD, brother Charles G. Hiob Jr, of Havre de Grace, MD and daughter-in-law Carol A. Sissom of Lake Mary, FL. The viewing will be held at Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, Aberdeen, MD on Friday, August 19 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services are scheduled on Saturday, August 20 at 11am at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Mt. Royal Ave., Aberdeen. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or the charity of choice. I will cherish my memories of "Sugar Babe" as a second Mother to many of us growing up in Aberdeen. Her love and support of her "Band Boys" will always be a part of my life. "And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand"
