Gladys Rebecca Tardy

Gladys Johnson Tardy was born April 20, 1923, to the late Augustus Johnson, Sr. and Mary Bond Johnson in Havre de Grace, Maryland. She was the first of seven children. Including two sisters, Doris and Lena and three brothers: Gus, John, and Steve who predeceased her. She leaves to morn one brother: Robert E. Johnson, Sr. The family lived in Havre de Grace, Maryland where her early education began. Gladys graduated from the Havre de Grace Colored School and attended Salisbury State College. Gladys attended St. James Methodist Church. While attending Salisbury State College she met Raymond Tardy who swept her off her feet. They immediately got married. Of this union five children were born: Raymond Tardy, Jr. (deceased), Barbara Jean Tardy Zackery, Delores Tardy Smith, Nathaniel Tardy (deceased), and Anna Tardy Duckery. Gladys worked at various jobs including Bata Shoe Company. She worked for the State of Maryland for many years as a social worker. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved watching The Price is Right, reading, baking, bird watching, and attending to her garden Gladys leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters: Barbara Jean (Rufus), Delores Tardy Smith, Anna Tardy Duckery (Howard), one brother: Robert E. Johnson, Sr., ten grandchildren: Tina, Wayne, Rachelle, Natasha, Elaine, Joshua, Naomi, Daniel, Erica, and Chaelina, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Mrs. Bradley.
