Obituary
Jennie M. Leffel, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, in Bel Air, Maryland. Born on November 15, 1938, in the small town of Fostoria, Michigan. Jennie was a woman of incredible spirit and love, whose presence enriched the lives of those around her. She was 86 years old.
The daughter of the late Hyrum and Violet (Spates) Stratton, Jennie was the heart of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Merle Evert Leffel, and her son, the late James A. Leffel. Jennie's legacy continues through her daughters, Fay Banker (Steve Bailley), Tina Heckmann (Danny Crouse), Kathy Mulherin (John) and the late Jane (Alexander) Hall. Her love and lessons will live on in the memories of her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life and was preceded in death by her grandson Richard Evert Walker.
Jennie's journey was shared with her siblings, the late Walter, Harold, Jack, Leo, and Henry Stratton, and her sisters, the late Dorothy Crider, Shirley Atherton, and Bea Alexander. Also survived by her dear friends, Marti Rakes and Jeff Pluff. Each held a special place in her heart, and she in theirs.
Jennie was a lifelong learner, with a curiosity and passion for knowledge that she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Her work as a factory laborer at Howell Industries in auto manufacturing demonstrated her strong work ethic and her commitment to providing for her family.
Jennie's creativity knew no bounds; she found joy in crafting, word searches, canning, and sewing. Her hands were rarely still, always busy with the next project that would bring a smile to someone's face. Jennie was also an enthusiast of the water, where she found tranquility and happiness, and her love for her C.B. connected her with friends and family, near and far.
To describe Jennie as creative, loving, and selfless only scratches the surface of the profound impact she had on those around her. She approached life with a quiet strength and a generous heart, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering support were the foundations upon which her family built their lives.
Jennie's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered not only for the love she gave but also for her ability to make each person she met feel uniquely special.
As we say goodbye to Jennie M. Leffel, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her memory will be treasured, and her legacy will endure in the hearts and stories of her family and friends for generations to come. Jennie's life was a testament to the enduring power of love and the beauty of a life dedicated to others. May she rest in peace, knowing she was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
