Obituary
Betty Jane Hahn, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 13, 2025, at Lorien Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, MD where she had been for the last several weeks. Born on March 13, 1935, in Emmitsburg, Maryland, to Charles B. Koontz and Ida Annabelle (Andrew) Koontz, Betty lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Betty was the devoted wife of the late Luther Hahn, and had lived in Level since 1952 where she raised her family in the house that her husband Luther had built for her. Betty lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Betty's early life in Emmitsburg laid the foundation for the incredible woman she would become. She graduated from high school with a spirit that was as infectious as it was nurturing, and she carried that spirit throughout her life. Betty was a devoted homemaker, a role she cherished deeply, and her love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence.
Those who knew Betty best will remember her for her loving, generous, and selfless nature. She was the beloved mother of Betty L. Deuchler (Glenn), Susan M. Workman (Nathan), Luther A. Hahn (Elizabeth), and Brian G. Hahn (Deena). Her legacy includes grandchildren, Kerri Younkin, Brittany Keller, Matthew Deuchler, Jason Vipperman, Justin Vipperman, Mathew Anders, Dawn Lawson, Luther A. Hahn and Erica Hahn and many great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored beyond measure. Her maternal nature was not reserved for her children alone; she extended her warmth and care to any child in her presence, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
Betty’s siblings held a special place in her life. She is survived by her brother James Koontz, and she now joins her late brothers Charles K. Koontz and George C. Koontz, as well as her late sister Mary Anna Nicolai, in eternal peace.
Beyond her family, Betty had passions that brought joy to both herself and others. She was an avid BINGO player and enjoyed the thrill of playing the slot machines. Her green thumb was evident in the beautiful flowers she planted each year, with marigolds being her particular favorite. The tradition of planting marigold seeds was one she passed down to her family, ensuring that her love for gardening and the beauty of nature would continue to bloom year after year.
Betty’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of experiencing her kindness and unwavering support. Her life was a testament to the power of love and the profound effect one person can have on the lives of many. Betty Jane Hahn will be remembered not only for the life she lived but also for the love she gave so freely. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family and friends, who will continue to honor her legacy by passing on the values she embodied to future generations.
