Obituary

Jean M. Dawson, a beacon of kindness and love, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in Towson, MD, at the age of 92. Born on August 29, 1933, in Cochranville, PA, to Lee and Edna Janney, Jean grew up in a bustling household alongside her siblings, Ruth, Elmer, Louise, Robert, and Doris, all of whom predeceased her.

Jean's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family and the joy she found in simple pleasures. She was the cherished wife of the late MSG Thomas Taylor Dawson Jr., with whom she built a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they raised a remarkable family, including their sons Michael (Barb), David (Laurie), Ronald (Gloria), Donald (Barb), Steven (Colleen), and Duane (Dawn). Her legacy further blossoms through her 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.

A lifelong learner, Jean took courses at Goldey-Beacom College, which enriched her role as a homemaker and the heart of the Dawson household. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and inviting home, where every room echoed with the sounds of merriment and the aroma of her famous baked goods. Jean's exceptional culinary skills were evident in her delicious pies and the fudge and jelly she lovingly prepared. Her talents shone brightest during the holidays, especially when she decorated Christmas cookies..

Jean's hobbies extended beyond the kitchen; she was an avid crocheter, bowler, and card player. Her hands were rarely still, as she created beautiful crochet pieces for her family and friends or rolled a strike at the local bowling alley. Evenings spent playing cards were filled with laughter and camaraderie, a testament to the community Jean fostered wherever she went.

Those who knew Jean will remember her as the embodiment of kindness, thoughtfulness, and love. Her gentle spirit and caring nature left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. The Dawson family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to Cathy Ball for her loving care and companionship to their mother over the last years of her life.

Jean's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family. She has left behind a tapestry of memories woven with love and the gentle touch of a woman who was, first and foremost, a genuine mother. As we say goodbye to Jean M. Dawson, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul that will forever enrich the fabric of our lives.

Services honoring her life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday November 24, 2025 at Tarring Cargo Funeral Home with a visitation beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow at Harford Memorial Gardens.

My name is Natalie Dawson, one of the great grandchildren of Jean. I miss her dearly and wear the scarves she knitted on these cold, snowy days in her honor. I wish she would’ve gotten to hear me sing just one last time before her passing. I know she hears me from above though, and I appreciate her for looking upon me. I’ll always miss the warming glow of her home and hugs. Fly high, Mommom Dawson 🕊️
