Obituary

Cherie-Lee Riddle passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 12th, 2025 at the age of seventy-nine.

Cherie was born on October 10, 1946 in Laconia, NH to Phyllis Johnson Hurd of Perryman, MD and William “Bud” Aaron Hurd IV of Sandwich, NH. Cherie graduated from Aberdeen High School, MD in 1964. After spending most summers in NH with her grandmother, Hazel Hurd, Cherie chose to graduate from Belknap College in Center Harbor, NH.

Over the course of her life, Cherie worked in the Harford Memorial Hospital Medical Lab Department as a laboratory technician, then the Harford County Board of Education at Roye- Williams Elementary School, where she was a teaching assistant who shared her passion for reading with her students for thirty-two years. She volunteered her time at Grace United Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for several decades.

Cherie retired from working in 2015 and turned instead to a quiet and cozy life of studying Turner Classic Movies among her beloved garden, murder mystery novels, and treasured collection of decorative turtles from all corners of the world.

She lived with, and is survived by, her loving husband, Kenneth Lee Riddle of Aberdeen, MD, whom she married in 1969. She is also survived by her children, Kelly Beth Earle and her partner Bill Irwin of Elkridge, MD and Jennifer Lee Keady and her husband Ben Keady of Charlotte, NC, and their child Nieve Keady, also of Charlotte, NC. Her brother, William “Bill” Aaron Hurd V, his wife Gayle Hurd, both of Port Deposit MD, their children Angela Wagner of Salisbury, MD and Donna Escoto of Port Deposit, MD and their families also survive her. She joins in rest her beloved grandson Kenneth “Max” Earle, who passed away three months earlier.

Visitation will be held at Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home in Aberdeen, MD on December 19th, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harford County Public Library Foundation, which can be found at https://hcplonline.org/foundation.php

To the Riddle and Hurd Families, I am so saddened to learn of Cherie’s passing. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. My mind is whirling with fun and crazy images of our teenage years in Aberdeen. I still see her smile and hear her laugh. Mary Smith Langlais St Simon’s Island , GA
