Obituary

Douglas Charles Burdette, Jr., age 77 of Aberdeen passed away on January 1, 2021 at Harford Memorial Hospital. He was born in Baltimore. He was preceded in death by his father Douglas Burdette, Sr. and his mother Lillian Schaefer Burdette. Doug graduated from Bel Air High School in 1961. He had his private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying. Doug enjoyed fishing and hunting and had a taxidermy license in the 1960's and early 1970's. He worked at his father’s pre-casting concrete and steel fabrication business for many years. Doug had a passion to be on the water, either boating, fishing, crabbing or all of the above. His passion turned into his last career phase by having one of the first aquaculture farms in Harford County. For those who knew Doug, knew that he was a character that loved telling a good story and could get just about anyone to laugh. He was also a very generous man and would help anyone that he could. Doug was a smart man and a history buff and knew a lot about Harford County and the people who lived in it. This last year and a half you may have seen him riding his fancy red wheel chair all over Havre de Grace, going down by the water (he loved Hutchins Park), watching the fisherman or the sail boat races. We know he was telling his stories to any and all that he met. Everybody knew ‘the guy in the wheel chair’ - Doug Burdette. He absolutely loved Havre de Grace. His friendliness, sense of humor, generosity and fun wit will be greatly missed by so many. Doug is survived by his daughter, Tami Burdette and fiance' Gil Hoerl, sons Michael Burdette and wife Marlee Burdette, and Brian Burdette and wife Anne Marie Burdette. He had 11 grandchildren and 4 great granddaughters. Doug is also survived by two siblings - Alan Burdette and wife Robin and Lois Burdette Crouse and husband William. He had 1 niece and 7 nephews. Doug would have also wanted to include his ex-wife, Marsha Burdette Gerdom and her husband Bruce Gerdom as they were a great support and friend to him. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, the family has decided to have a private Celebration of Life for Doug sometime in the Spring.

Lend a helping hand. Hard worker. Knowledgeable. Gentleman. Warm Mountain Dew. Friendly. Outgoing. That was Doug Burdette. I learned a good bit about hard work and life from this man in the short time I spent around him. Certainly left a lasting impression on me. Sending prayers of comfort to his family. May God keep you all in His loving arms and comfort you.

I only knew Doug for the last 6 years. But he was an amazing person. He was always there for our family. He was there for almost anyone who needed him and he would help someone whole heartedly without any hesitation. Even when he was not in a position to do so he would make it happen. I am so blessed I was able to meet him and experience such kindness. I have never met anyone so unselfish and sweet. I am truly blessed. Fly high Pop pop! 💗
