Obituary

Nancy J. Welsh passed away on the morning of Friday, January 29, 2021 due to complications from diabetes at the home of her daughter. She was 89 years old and had a great life and decided it was time. She decided that she had enough. Nancy was born in Mountain Lake Park, Maryland on August 18, 1931 to the late Audrey Trickett White and Joseph T. White. She attended Aberdeen High school and her yearbook quote was “what would a bake sale have been without Nancy”. She was an excellent cook. (She passed this trait onto her youngest daughter Linda). As a young woman she was introduced to Eugene William Welsh Jr. who was 8 years her senior. They were married for 44 years prior to his passing in 1996. Nancy was an interior designer and artist. She owned Nancy Welsh Art and Antiques in Havre de Grace in the 1980’s. She enrolled in the Polly Mitchell school of Art in Baltimore and taught a small group of art students in her home in Darlington until 2017. She also opened the “Aviary” studio in her home with her daughter Cathy. She finally visited the Louvre on a trip to Paris in 2002 followed by a trip to Tuscany several years later. She was very sociable and had many friends throwing herself an 80th Birthday party replete with a band and catering. She enjoyed designing and building her home on Shuresville Road in Darlington where she resided with her beloved cats “Molly” and “Quinton” until September 2020. She really enjoyed watching the Darlington Fourth of July parade as well as attending the Apple festival. She loved all animals. Nancy is survived by her 5 children Dr. Sharon Welsh (Dr. Edward Haas) of Hockessin, Delaware, Joseph E. Welsh (Tereasa West Welsh) of Havre de Grace, Eleanor “Cathy” Welsh of Hockessin, Delaware, John Mark Welsh (Linda) of Havre de Grace and Linda M. Welsh of Dover, New Hampshire as well as her 2 beloved grandchildren Sean Joseph Welsh (Liz Browning Welsh) and Kaitlyn Rybczynski (Adam) both of Havre De Grace. She also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren and several beloved nieces and nephews. Many thanks to Delaware Hospice for their kind and caring services during her final days. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers please just be kind to animals and each other and enjoy life as much as Nancy did.

I'm so sorry to have learned about your Mom's passing. She was such a sweet and kind lady. Whenever I would visit your home, your parents were always so welcoming and nice to me! It's so hard to lose a parent and I understand the empty feeling inside. Her voice and lessons will always remain with you and may that provide you with comfort. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

We were Nancy's Darlington MD neighbors for about six years and met her at an art open house in her home about five years ago. As with everyone she met, she invited us in and made us feel at home. She was a great conversationalist, and we visited her at home a couple of times a year to chat. Her family and children were always on her mind, and she talked of them often. Having lost my mother recently I know how impossible the realization can be that she is gone. She was a great neighbor and we will miss her too.

Dear Sharon, She sounds like a lovely woman. It is true what they say about being part "of the greatest generation." May your family and memories support you through your loss. Sincerely, Jane Phillips

Dear Sharon, You are who you are because your mother gave you love, encouragement, a hug and a scolding when needed. Keep her in your heart always.

I met her through one of the AMC Cancer research Showhouses in the 1990s . She was always a delight to visit with. She had excellent taste and chose interesting pieces for her “shop”. Happy to know she lived a long and happy life.

I got to know your mother through my Aunt Eleanor Lee. When we would ride through Darlington Aunt Eleanor always insisted on stopping to see Nancy. It was great fun. She is a wonderful artist. Mothers are missed forever. Blessings up. I will plant a tree in honor of your mother but I must find a place in Havre de Grace. So, I await the springtime and I will look for a spot that needs a tree. Ginger Petrick (from grade school, remember?)
