Obituary
In Loving Memory of
Minnie Ethel (Akers) May
3 February 1943 - 1 Mar 2026
Minnie May passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday morning, 1 March 2026, after a long illness. She is survived by her loving husband, William (Bill) Donnie May, daughter Connie (Steve) Quickstad and son Michael (Kim Scardina) May.
Minnie was a coal miner’s daughter born in Del Barton, West Virginia, to parents Frank and Minnie Akers. She was the oldest of 12 children and her surviving siblings are Clara (Jackie) Queen, Donnie Gene Akers, Paul (Kathy) Akers, Roger (Tammie) Akers, Kathy (Brian) Hatfield, and Michael (Denise) Akers.
Minnie and Bill were childhood sweethearts and were married for 65 years. Though the military separated them for long stretches of time it only made their love stronger. She loved being with her family, listening to country music, playing games, going bowling, Bingo, and trying her luck with the slot machines. Minnie was a true fighter and endured many surgeries and setbacks but never gave up hope or lost her spirit. Her strength touched the hearts of many.
She started working for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service in Holland, starting off as a salesclerk in the shoe department. She continued working in Germany and Ft. Meade and after 19 years was the manager of several departments. She was a hard worker with strong ethics, and her coworkers, employees and customers appreciated her honesty, dedication and fairness.
She will be missed but the love she shared and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of her family, friends and all those who knew her.
She’ll always be Fit as a Fiddle…
