Curtis A. Maxfield
Obituary
Curtis Alexander Maxfield of Edgewood died June 8, 2014, in Philadelphia. He was 24.
Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of Stephen Maxfield of San Ramon, CA, and Kimberly Coleman of Edgewood, MD.
A kind, gentle, adventurous spirit, Alex earned the Eagle Scout distinction with the Baltimore Area Council. He thought history was cool, and hoped to one day teach. More than anything, Alex was a free spirit who loved music, traveling, and writing poetry. He wrote, of becoming a tree:
…And roots dig so deeply
I'm having trouble knowing where
I begin
but still my thoughts
run freely
He followed bands like the Grateful Dead "Now reunion band, Furthur" around the country, enjoying the music and experiencing the world around him. Everywhere he went, Alex loved to meet people, talk to people, and spread his joy of life.
Lay down my dear Brother, lay down and take your rest.
— from "We Bid You Goodnight," Grateful Dead
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings S.Tyler, Daniel N., and Sydney K. Maxfield; grandparents, Douglas and Nancy Maxfield of Bowie, MD, and John and Carmela Coleman of Rehoboth, DE; and his niece and nephew, Taylor M. Maxfield and Kaden M. Zulka.
