Obituary

John Earl Boyle III, who worked tirelessly in devotion to his country, both in military and civilian service, died at the age of 54 of natural causes in his home in Aberdeen. John was raised in a Navy family, the son of Capt. John Earl Boyle Jr. and Mrs. Frances Boyle. He had three sisters: Frances Cleaver and Barbara Feuerbacher, the late Mary Denworth. He attended the University of Oklahoma and was a memeber of the Kappa Alpha fraternity and the naval ROTC program, serving in Vietnam as a midshipman aboard the Shangri-La. John graduated from OU with a BS in education and was later commissioned as an officer. He flew for the Oceanagrapher of the Navy with squadron VXN8. Continuing his education, Mr. Boyle completed a Masters of Public Administration at the George Washington University in 1979 and also a teaching certification for the state of Maryland. John spent his civilian career at Aberdeen Proving Ground working as a budget analyst for Kirk Army Health Clinic and later as a computer specialist. His excellent work ethic, concern for his co-workers, and integrity earned him the Superior Civilian Service Award. After suffering the effects of two car accidents, John retired from service to our nation and pursued his favorite hobbies: sailing, woodworking and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, who is on faculty at the Unversity of Maryland School of Pharmacy, his daughters, Martha Abshire and Katherine Boyle and his son-in-law Christopher Abshire. He will be remembered as a wonderful, generous father, an enthusiastic member of his community and a truly stubborn (but loveable) Irishman. His memorial service will be held at St. Joan of Arc on Friday, April 30 at 10:30 AM. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, or SMILES, the Havre de Grace High School Volunteer.
