Gertrude Marie Tanchuk

Gertrude Marie Tanchuk of Aberdeen, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at Lorien Assisted Living Home in Bel Air after a series of illnesses and suffering a stroke in early May. She was 84. Born December 10, 1920 in Matrin’s Ferry, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Husvar and Gertrude Perko Husvar. She was married for 60 years to the late Walter Tanchuk who died in 1998, and for one year to Ralph Mancuso, who died in 2002. During her early years, she was employed at Aberdeen Proving Ground and as a waitress, hostess, and manager at restaurants in Harford and Cecil County areas, including the Mayflower and the Madison House until 1979. In the early 1960’s she served as the Commander in the D.A.V. Auxillary Unit 15 in Havre de Grace, MD, was a past Commander of the V.F.W. of Havre de Grace and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Havre de Grace. Mrs. Tanchuk was devoted to her children. She is survived by three sons, Ralph Tanchuk of Aberdeen, David Tanchuk of Huntington Beach, California, and Michael Tanchuk of Owensboro, Kentucky and two daughters Mari Powell and Barbara Reeves, both of Darlington, MD. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was the loving sister of John Husvar of Abeline, Texas, and the late Joseph, Daniel, and Edward Husvar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 7, 10:00 AM, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 615 Congress Avenue, Havre de Grace, MD 21078. Pallbearers will be Chuck Powell, Brian Powell, Bill Reeves, Al McLaughlin, Robert Lockman, and Matt Weherle. Donations may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
