Catherine Viele Mitchell

Catherine Viele Mitchell, 98, of Frederick, passed away Monday, January 23, at her home. She was the wife of the late John S. Mitchell, who died in 1961. Born in Aberdeen, she was the daughter of the late Frederick O. and Eunice (Jamison) Viele. Surviving is a daughter, Anne M. Pomeroy of Frederick; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John S. Mitchell Jr., in 1967; a brother, Frederick J. Viele; and a sister, Florence Viele Harry. She was the retired vice-president of Chesapeake Bank in Towson. she was one of only two in the state of Maryland. She was a member of the Harford County Library Board; Docent of Hampton House in Towson; Representative to Presbyterian Home in Towson; Havre de Grace Decoy Museum; Stepping Stone Museum; Life Master in Bridge; played Bridge for the Cancer Fund; member of Evergreen Garden Club, Womens Club of Chevy Chase, Auxiliary of Harford Memorial Hospital; and was the oldest living member of Grove Presbyterian Church, where she also worked in the church office. She also attended Harford Community College in later years and traveled extensively. Viewing will be held Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at Grove Presbyterian Church where services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arthur Pomeroy, Andrew Pomeroy, John Pomeroy, Bruce Mitchell, Eugene Kingsbury and Michael Konsen. The Rev. David Wilson will officiate.
