Obituary

Jodie Susette Davis age 41 of Aberdeen died July 30, 2008. She was born Feb. 21, 1967, in Fort Jackson, S.C. She attended Aberdeen High School and Harford Community College and graduated from the Susquehanna Job Corps program. She met and married the now late James Taylor and they had two sons. Her family said she was a very beautiful, vibrant, benevolent and caring person. She was always known as a "daddy's girl" and words could not express the love she had for him. She was a great mother for her sons and their many friends. Sometimes she conducted a "shuttle service" for her sons and many others who participated in the parks and recreation programs. Her presence and beauty illuminated her environment, her family said. She was employed by numerous law firms and was on the staff of Del. Mary Dulany-James. She often stated that being the niece of Rosa Parks and participating and attending her funeral in Washington, D.C., with so many celebrities was one of her greatest thrills in life. She is survived by her sons, James Taylor and John Taylor, both of Aberdeen; her father, Maj. Wilbert Davis, of Aberdeen; her grandmother, Elizabeth "Tiny" Ward, of Sterling, Va.; two sisters, Stephanie Davis-Harris, of Wilmington, Del., and Karen Davis, of Aberdeen; five sisters-in-law, Carmen Davis, of Columbia, S.C., Catherine Davis, of Bordeaux, France, Debbie Singleton, of Largo, Jacqueline Green, of Aberdeen, and Karen Persha, of Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Wilbert Davis Jr., of Aberdeen, and William "Tommy" Davis, of Bordeaux, France; a brother-in-law, Demetrious Hanes, of Aberdeen; two special aunts, Dorothy Westbrook, of Sterling, Va., and Elsa Jones, of Columbus, Ohio, and 1st Sgt. James Williams, of Aberdeen; and her special friends, Donna Williams and Johnetta Whiteford, both of Aberdeen, and Daniella Sconion, of Washington, D.C. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her mother, Barbara Ward-Davis; her grandparents, Susie and Lawrence Smith and Joseph War; and her great-grandmother, Annie Brown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 7 at Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home in Aberdeen. A funeral service will follow at noon Aug. 8 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Havre de Grace, with James C. Williams Sr. officiating and with an additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens in Aldino. My condolences to the family. Jodie will be missed greatly by her family and friends. It has been years since I spoke with her. Yet, the news of her death was shocking, and hurtful. I had the opportunity to know Jodie when we both worked at Saks Fifth Ave in Forest Hill. Her smile and laugh remains vivid within me. She always spoke very fondly of her father, and two sons, John and James; her voice conveyed a deep love for them. She was special and will truly be missed, and will always hold a special place in my heart. Although, not perfect to me she was an earthly angel taken away from us way too, soon. May you R*I*P Jodie, until we meet again. MUCH LOVE,... your eternal friend...

Mr. Davis and Family, I am very sorry for your loss. Jodi was a true gem to my sister and our family. We have known her for 33 years and we will miss her. Her sons will be looked after just as she would do for Gilda. I hope that you find comfort knowing that she is with your wife and mother in heaven now. Love and Peace to you all. Donna Pettis

Jodie and I were friends all the way back to Hillsdale. I was thrilled to see her at the last class of 85 reunion where she spoke with love and pride about her sons. May God bless her family and send peace at this time of loss.

I am so truly sorry for your loss. Jodie was a very special person. We have known each other seems like forever. Even though we didn't stay in close touch, when we did catch up it was as if we had never missed a beat. Your family and her boys will stay in my heart and prayers.

I am very sorry for your loss. It was wonderful to see Jodi at our last class reunion ('85) and fun reminiscing about old times. My thoughts and prayers are with her boys and family during this difficult time. God bless.
