Beatrice G Short

Beatrice Grace Kilby Short was born July 30, 1924 in Hemlock, Ashe Co., North Carolina to Roscoe and Eula Mae Kilby. She entered Eternity October 22, 2008 at Encore Senior Village in Pensacola, FL at the age of 84. She graduated from Havre de Grace High School and worked at Perry Point VA Hospital and while there was awarded a scholarship to University of MD School of Nursing and received her LPN certification. She retired with 30 years of service. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Delra K. Mitcham and Mabel D. Kilby, her husband, Leroy Short, Sr and long time companion and friend, Paul Honda. She is survived by a son, Leroy Short, Jr. (Pat) of Casselberry, FL; daughter, Susan Valentour (Patton) of Pensacola, FL; two grandsons; Vic Valentour (Amy) of Alabaster, AL; Jeffrey Valentour (Jennifer) of Buford, GA and 4 great-grandchildren; Dexter, Chase, Garrett and Olivia Valentour of Buford, GA. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth A. Kilby of High Springs, FL; two brothers, Thomas C. Kilby (Shirley) of Rising Sun and Billy S. Kilby (Breta) of Aberdeen, MD as well as several nieces and nephews. She was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed extensive traveling for tournaments. She bowled in 30 Women's National Tournaments and was a charter member of the Harford County Women's Bowling Association.
