Obituary

Della Mary Remines, 77, of Pittsville, MD (formerly of Aberdeen), was sweetly reunited with her husband Walter "Rusty" Remines on November 14, 2008. She entered her journey to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family, with everyone knowing that this was a new beginning for her. Born in Ashe County, North Carolina, November 25, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Guy Homer and Ina Johnson West. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rusty and son, Terry Lee Remines; two sisters, Lois West Blackburn and Annie M. Hughes; two brothers Lacy West and Daryl West. She spent many years of her employment in the food service at Oakington Elementary School in Harford County and Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, MD, being mom to many. Della enjoyed life to the fullest! She loved flowers and gardening. Her house was always filled, inside and out, with a splendid array of flowers. Della wrapped a blanket of love around each and every grandchild with her passion for crocheting. Family members were blessed with gifts that showed the many hours of love that went into her work. In recent years she became a computer geek, following in the footsteps of her youngest daughter, Della found great enjoyment in communicating with her family through e-mail, IM, and texting. She thought it was pretty cool that she was "up" with the times. Della was a giver. Not only of the many splendid apple cakes and banana breads, but of her heart. Della put everyone before herself and was always there with kind words and comforting hugs. She always knew just what you needed. Even if it was just cinnamon toast. Her passions included many things, but most strong was the love her family. Family was everything to Della. She will be greatly missed, but live on in the hearts of many. She is survived by her son, Jerry Remines of Bullard, Texas; her daughters, Deborah Smithson of Pittsville, Maryland and Robin Remines of Aberdeen, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister Illene Bowman of Perryville, Maryland; and a brother, Guy West of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; as well as nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday at 1pm at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, P.A. in Aberdeen, Maryland. Friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Sean West, Aaron West, Jimmy Long, Billy Boylan, Aaron Call, and Scott Smithson. A "Celebration of Life" will take place Tuesday, November 25th at 6pm at the home of Tanya and Aaron Call. Friends and family are welcome to join us at 6 Penders Court, Berlin, to honor the life of Della Remines. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: The Lance Armstrong Foundation, c/o Robin Remines, 406 Chadsworth Court, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001 or to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Aunt Della thank you for everything. For teaching me about God and for every hug you gave me every single time I saw you. You will be missed by all. I love you.

Debbie, Robin and Jerry - My heart, my thoughts and my love are with you. I will miss your mom very much. She was like a second mother to Angie and I when we were growing up. Like her sisters who have recently departed from us, Annie and Lois; Della shared with them that special remarkable gift to which they shared with us all - love, laughter and grace. Above all else Della, like Annie and Lois shared that generous and unselfish devotion to family and friends. These gifts were a product of two remarkable people, Guy and Ina West. Their strength, love, values and character did not only pass down to their children but to a second and third gereration as well. It is something to be very proud of. I loved your mom and I shall miss her very much. I leave you with this special poem: I stood watching as the little ship sailed out to sea. The setting sun tinted her white sails with a golden light, and as she disappeared from sight a voice at my side whispered, “she is gone”. But the sea was a narrow one. On the farther shore a little band of friends had gathered to watch and wait in happy expectation. Suddenly they caught sight of the tiny sail and, at the very moment when my companion had whispered, “she is gone” a glad shout went up in joyous welcome, “Here she comes!” Love and hugs

She will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful and sweet lady. Along with her banana bread and apple cakes you can't forget the strawberry pies. I don't know where my dad and debbie will go to get butter anymore either (only some will understand). We will all miss her, but Debbie, remember she's having the best time ever right now with everyone in Heaven. There is no place better than where she is. Much love Jessica

MOMOM made the BEST biscuts and gravy. She knew just how to touch your heart and just with her cooking but with her smile and laughter. I agree with Jess I don't know where mom and dad will get butter or anything else they in a heart beat. Wish I could be there, but just know that y'all are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you guys. THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT! (that's for you mom)

Aunt Della- I'm going to miss you so very much. You reminded me so much of Mom-Mom with your humor, and never give up attitude. I'm so sorry I didn't get to see you before you passed, but now I get to keep my last memory of you alive in my heart and mind. We were standing outside after Aunt Lois' wake smoking a cigarette and just laughing about nothing at all. Don't stir up too much trouble in heaven. I love you and will miss you always. -Nicole
