June 26, 1930 – December 30, 2008
David Volz surrounded by many of his loving family at his Shalimar, Florida home passed on Tuesday evening December 30, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
The son of George D. Volz and Mary Mitchell Volz of Churchville, Maryland, he was a resident of Florida since 1970. David enjoyed a wonderful 57 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart, Ethel Plummer Volz. David distinguished himself over a 35 year career with the Department of Defense. Starting as an airman assigned to Nome, Alaska and continuing through the civil service ranks he served the Army at Edgewood Arsenal and Aberdeen Proving Grounds and the Air Force at Eglin AFB Florida. A graduate of the University of Baltimore with degree in Transportation Management he served- on, led and managed several teams providing a range of critical logistical support to the United States Military. Some of his most important assignments included troop transportation, and weapons and munitions packaging and shipment.
David's interests included fishing and goose hunting with friends, sports cars and motorsports racing, and golf. Outside of family and friends his passion was for golf. An avid and accomplished player he colorfully expressed a sincere appreciation for the beauty, challenge and unique enjoyment each course and each round brought. David and his wife Ethel particularly enjoyed their time together traveling in their motor home seeing the country, making new friends and memories, and of course, playing golf along the way.
