Obituary
Marceil E. Grigdesby, long time resident of Harford County, died Monday August 2, after a short illness at Harford Memorial Hospital. She was 76.
She served as a mentor and role model to many children throughout her life. She taught nursery school in the 1960s, coached young bowlers during the '70 and '80s, and supported her grandchildren in their endeavors for the past 20 years. She always saw the best in children and ensured they had a safe haven in which to grow and succeed.
Mrs. Grigdesby volunteered with the local Meals on Wheels program. She also gave her time helping with the Churchville Cub Scouts and fundraising for the Aberdeen High School men's soccer program.
She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late John William and Zelma May (Johnson) Hurt. In 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, James R. Grigdesby, now a retired Naval Captain (Pharmacist) with the U. S. Public Health Service. They lived together in Indiana, Kentucky, and Louisiana before settling in Aberdeen in1959.
In addition to her devoted husband, James, she is survived by her two loving daughters, Vannessa G. Smingler of Ashburn, Virginia, and Sharon K. Frazer of Aberdeen, Maryland, and five grandchildren, Samantha, Sean, and Scott Smingler and William and Andrew Frazer.
The family invites all friends to join them during the visitations to be held Friday, August 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Tarring's on Saturday, August 7 at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Harford Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Meals on Wheels, 45 N. Main Street, Suite D, Bel Air, Maryland, 21014.

We have many fond memories of "Grandma Grigdesby." She welcomed us to her home and treated us as family. She was a great supporter of Cub Scouts and any activities her grandchildren were in. She gave willingly of her time and talents to help others. Marcie will be greatly missed by many. The family continues to be in our thoughts and prayers.
