Obituary

Dennis Swann Beattie, 82, passed away on July 6, 2024 at Select Specialty Rehab Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Dennis served honorably in the US Navy from 1960-1964 before embarking on a distinguished career with the US Federal Government at APG/EA MD, where he retired as a Supervisor/ Branch Chief of the Chemical Equipment Maintenance Branch.

Dennis was a man of many interests, including fishing, hunting, shooting pool, playing cards, doing puzzles and reading. He was also a devoted fan of his grandchildren’s sporting events, rarely missing a game or competition. Known for his great sense of humor, Dennis has the unique ability to laugh heartily at jokes he had just heard for the first time, spreading joy and laughter wherever he went. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. Dennis will be greatly missed by all.

He leaves behind his loving Spouse of 45 years, Flora (Moretti) Beattie; Daughters, Cindi (Scott) Jenkins and Kym Layman; Grandchildren, Austin Jenkins, Taylor Layman and Brendon Layman; Brother, Gregory (Sharon) Beattie; Niece, Alisha Nicholson; and Nephew, Ryan Beattie. Dennis was preceded in death by his Mother, Margaret June Beattie, and several beloved Uncles and Cousins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dennis can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Homes For Our Troops. Donations can be sent via checks payable to Flora Beattie, noting the charity of choice in the memo, to 202 Woods Way, Elkton MD 21921. The last I saw Flora and Dennis was on a Havre de Grace High class reunion cruise. What a wonderful time we had, all together again after so many years. I remember dancing a few Cha Cha's with Flora as Dennis clapped from the sidelines. Please accept my sincere sympathy during this very sad time. My God guide you safely to happier times. Mrs. Flora, So Sorry for your loss. I remember all the Summer Pool Parties at your house they were so much fun. You remember when Dad pushed Mr. Denny’s Rototiller down to your house one Christmas Eve as a surprise Christmas gift? Dad always told me that was the Coldest Christmas Eve he could remember pushing that tiller down Windsor Court late that night.
