Obituary

Sandra Allen, a beacon of warmth and a positive attitude of optimism, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, at Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living. Born on January 1, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, Sandra's life was a tapestry woven with a wonderful smile and an unwavering positive spirit that touched everyone she met.

Sandra was the cherished daughter of the late William B. Caldwell and Mabel Culbertson Olwine. She was a beloved sister to William J. Caldwell. Her life was further blessed with her sons Glen Hewton and his wife Leigh of Tomball, TX, Doug Hewton and his wife Donna of Reading, PA, David Hewton and his wife Joan of Edgewood, MD, and her daughters Joan Benz and her husband Gregory of Aberdeen, MD, and Margaret Kessler and her husband Skip of Cincinnati, OH. Sandra was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of joy and generosity.

Sandra's professional life was marked by her dedication to customer service. She worked at various grocery stores before retiring from Walmart, where she was known for her cheerful demeanor and her ability to make every customer feel valued and welcomed. Sandra's natural affinity for people and her desire to serve others made her a beloved figure among her colleagues and customers alike.

She was an avid reader, often found with a book in her hand, lost in stories that fueled her imagination and spirit. Sandra lived for a time in Texas and her love for Texas was well-known. In her younger years, she loved dancing and was a fan of country music. It was said she would dance every chance she could.

Sandra did a lot of Crochet. She use to Crochet beautiful blankets and hats for newborns for her friends and colleague at Walmart. She also ventured into her own business, with a former daughter in law in the 1980's and opened up a Needle Point Shop. It was popular for a hot minute but fizzled out very quickly.

She loved old movies. Joan and Sandra would every night after dinner and watch movies. She went on all their family vacations from white water rafting to skiing trips and managed a few cruises which she absolutely loved. For the white water rafting and skiing trips, she did not partake in those activities but she enjoyed watching the grandkids that were too young to participate in those activities.

Joan and Greg moved her and Joan’s Grandmother from Williamstown, New Jersey to Aberdeen in the early 2000s. She took care of her mother and then her brother, and when they passed Joan and Greg saw a lot of signs of Alzheimer's and moved Mom in with them in 2014. During her battle with Alzheimer's disease She STILL maintained her sweet nature and natural kindness to everyone she came in contact with.

Those who knew Sandra will remember her as the epitome of friendliness. She greeted everyone with a smile that could light up a room and had an optimistic outlook that was truly infectious. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the countless lives she touched with her kindness.

A celebration of her life will be held at Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, P.A., 333 S. Parke St., Aberdeen, MD 21001 on Saturday September 7, 2024 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedysis Hospice or Forest Hill Heights Assisted Living.

I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,

I'm following the path God laid for me;

I took His hand when I heard Him call

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh, to love, to work, or play;

Tasks left undone must stay that way.

I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembering joy,

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss;

Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow;

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I've savored much,

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief

Lift up your heart and share with me.

God wanted me now -- He set me free.

My grandmother was a wonderful woman. She taught me so much while I lived with her for a short period. She was at every family function. Her cooking was amazing and of course she’s passed down recipes. I’m going to miss her dearly. Love you Mom Mom! Rest in peace. The Lord has you now. You’re in excellent hands ❤️❤️❤️
