I will be forever grateful for the experience Ethel Sellman provided for me and so many other students at Aberdeen High School, through the "Jumelage" exchange program in France. The adventure of staying with a French family in L'Union during the summer of 1976, and also hosting French students, changed the course of my life. Merci, et reposez en paix, Mme. Sellman. I knew Madame Sellman as my French teacher at Aberdeen Senior High School. She was a wonderful French teacher, but she also taught perseverance, strength of character, and the love of learning. Thank you Madame Sellman. My sympathy goes out to the family. May you find peace during this difficult time.

Dear Ethel, I send my sincere sympathy in the loss of your mother. I have many fond memories of her as a teacher and as a hostess when we played together and stayed overnight in high school. I hope your memories of her will comfort you. In time, perhaps, we can get together for a bite of lunch. I would like to give you a call, if I might.

I could write a book about the adventures that Mme Sellman created for her French classes in Aberdeen and in France. Her humor, endless encouragement, generosity, and optimism propelled many an unfocused adolescent into rewarding careers and personal lives. Thirty-five years after my final class with Mme Sellman, I still smile at her creative teaching techniques. Au Revoir, and Grand Merci, Mme Sellman. Toujours.
