Obituary

Phillip Allen Vass, Jr, 42, of Aberdeen, MD, passed from this world on November 3, 2024.

Phil or “Philly”, as he was known by his family, was an avid fisherman and always sought to catch “The Great Atlantic Goldfish” with his daughter and best buddy, Evelyn. Known for his comedic spirit and awesome voice impressions, Phil could always draw a laugh, even in the most dire of times.

Phil was a graduate of Aberdeen High School and attended Harford Community College. He served with Harford County Sheriff’s Office and APG DoD Police Department. He was most recently promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with TCS Security and was very proud of his achievement.

Phil is survived by his wife Jaclyn (nee VanNortwick) Vass and his daughter Evelyn Vass, his parents Phillip Sr. and Tela Vass, his mother and father-in-law Barbara and Robert VanNortwick, sister-in-law Nicole Melara, niece Eden Melara, Aunt Debra and Uncle Wesley Treadway, Aunt Paula Fowlkes, Uncles William Vass III, Curlen Richardson, Great Uncle Deacon Francis H. Winn, and Great Aunts Rachel Winn and Carolyn Ray. He is proceeded in death by his Grandfather William Vass Sr., Grandmother Alicia Virginia Vass, Grandmother Sally Copenhaver and Grandfather William Copenhaver, Aunts Mary Ellen Wright and Vivian Richardson and Uncle Francis H. Vass.

Not one to be easily forgotten, he will be sorely missed by all he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the future care of Phil’s daughter, Evelyn Vass. Donations may be made to:

Too many memories to share. One of my favorites is.. in the parking lot at work (at the jail) one night, I spun out in the mud and sent mud flying all over Phil’s car (silver Pontiac). We went through 3 car washes that night and barely got the mud off. I laughed for 2 days over that. Fast forward a few months, Phil came into work and said “I wash my car today and mud is still coming out of the door” . I laughed for another 2 days. Mr Phil and Ms T, I still love y’all, Philly will be missed. My sincere condolences, Lee Travers

My dad Phillip Allen vass was an awesome father. We are best buddies I love him we used to say that one day together we would catch “the great adlantic goldfish” I’ll miss him and will love him forever. He was really good at voices he could imitate my mom. I hope he knew I loved him more than I loved myself♥️
