Obituary

On May 12, 2012 Herbert Edward Turnbaugh, Sr departed this life with his family by his side. He is the beloved husband of Donna Turnbaugh and loving father to Charlene and Doug Jones, Herbie and Tina Turnbaugh, Martha Turnbaugh and Don and Roseonna Turnbaugh. He is survived by his sister Martha Reynolds, ten grandchildren, five great- grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by brother's Clarence and Francis Turnbaugh and sister Ida Mae Thorstad. Affectionately known as the "Mayor of Carsins Run", Herb loved nothing more than to be surrounded by his family and friends. A man of the outdoors, Herb enjoyed farming and the many chores that a great country life had to offer. A life-long Harford County citizen, Herb owned several local gas stations in the Aberdeen area, and drove a cement truck for Davis Concrete and Maryland Redi Mix. Anyone who knew Herb, would tell you what a character he was. He was a man of humor, enjoying nothing more than playing a practical joke or trick on someone. He could often be found hiding behind a bush waiting to scare someone, usually one of his children. As we send our sweet daddy home, we pray that he is riding that John Deere to his hearts delight! We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Herbert's passing. He was a wonderful person and he will be missed by all. I especially enjoyed his stories about his childhood and about my dad Clarence. He will live on in our memories.

One of my favorite memories of Uncle Herb are the pranks he would play on me. What a fun loving man he was, always a joy to be around. I had to look over my shoulder watching and waiting for the next prank because I knew that one would be coming. What a blessing he was with his spirited and carefree attitude. I miss him and love him very much.

My sweet daddy. I have so much to thank you for, the list being way too long. I will just say "thank you for showing me how to enjoy the simple life" My Doug told me all the time how he wanted to retire and just ride around with you in your truck and drink coffee while "checking on every thing". I will always smile when I smell the "fresh scent" that is so special to a farm. On those special days in the summer..you know the ones..hot hay days..I will laugh and cry thinking dad would be getting in hay and calling every one to come throw some hay with him. I will be sitting out back listening for your song, keeping you in my heart forever honey..I will see you every Deere Season.. Your loving daughter..George..

Pop, I know you are happy and content now riding your John Deere tractor in the sky, watching over all of us. I can't begin to thank you for every lesson, every moment and every happy laugh and memory. By allowing us to share in your dream and your way of life you taught this city girl and my boys what farming and living off the land meant. The peace in mowing a hayfield, sitting outside listening to the birds, the hilarity of separating the calves, and teaching us how to read the weather by looking at the sky, trees and animals. There is no greater gift or legacy. We love and miss you!

Daddy, there are many things that I have to thank you for. Far too many to write out here. Let me say, you are the one who showed me how to stand on my own and to do that while remembering to enjoy the simple life. I have many memories of the simple life on the farm.you know the ones where you only needed help throwing those four little wagon loads of hay, chasing the cows that you somehow knew were out or picking rows and rows of beans. I may not have inherited that green thumb of yours, but your love for animals is mine and is something that I will carry with me always. Tears and smilesuntil then Sunshine, I will be out back living the simple life Love your favorite daughterMathe
