Obituary
Michael Henry Gustave of Aberdeen died Friday, November 30 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium. He was 84.
Born in Hudson, PA he was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Zepeski) Gustave and husband of the late Mary (Mesko) Gustave.
In 1946, Mr. Gustave accepted an athletic scholarship to the Virginia Military Institute where he played football for two years. Unfortunately, before the start of his junior year he was diagnosed with tuberculosis which ended his athletic participation and future goal of becoming a military officer. After making a full recovery, he graduated in 1952 from Wilkes college with bachelors degree in mathematics. From 1953 to 1956 he taught math and coached football at Marysville High School in Pennsylvania. In 1956, Mr. Gustave married and moved to Maryland where he began working as a mathematician in the Ballistic Research Laboratories at the Aberdeen Proving Ground. After 31 years he retired and became a consultant with various defense contractors. Mr. Gustave kept up with current news events and enjoyed watching sports. He liked the old Baltimore Colts (especially Gino Marchetti, Art Donovan and Johnny U.) and followed the Ravens when they moved to Baltimore.
He his survived by his sons; Michael Gustave and wife Rebecca Malara of Fredericksburg, VA and Charles Gustave of Aberdeen and his daughter, Mary Kay Gustave of Elkton, MD.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment was in Harford Memorial Gardens.

May you find comfort during this time of loss. I recently lost a brother who was watching my dad who is the same age and ailing. I started caring for my dad since. I recall Mr. Gustave with a gleam in his eye watching Mike and us play football, basketball and baseball in the rec leagues until we left AHS in 74.

I am sorry that I only saw Mike's obituary today, 11 December. Mike and I worked together at BRL and AMSAA for many years. After he retired, I occasionally ran into him when he was doing his grocery shopping and we were able to chat for a little while. I am really sorry he has passed away. I appreciated the good work he did and always told his clients that they were lucky that he was working on their projects. He was very dedicated. I didn't know he played football but that explains a lot about how he approached his work. I will miss Mike and his friends from BRL and AMSAA that have gone on ahead of me. They were a great bunch and I have fond memories of them all.
