Ronald A. Jones
March 05, 1938 - January 22, 2025
Obituary
Ron was born in Johnstown, PA in 1938 to Everett and Ernestine (Leckey)
Jones. He has two younger siblings, brother Wallace (Wally) Jones of
Canyon County, California and sister, Patricia Marcinko of Windber,
Pennsylvania. In addition to his siblings and 3 children, he is also survived
by his son in law Paul Hullett. Ron has 7 grandchildren that include Erin
Foley, spouse Brad Foley, Jared Hullett, spouse Karen Hullett, Alexis and
Laylah Ringgold. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren to include
Eva and Walter Foley, Robin and Andrea Hullett. He was preceded in death
by his wife Joyce, of 58 years.
He attended and graduated from Greater Johnstown High School in 1956.
While in high school, he was a member of the marching band in which he
played the saxophone. It was about that time he met the love of his life,
Joyce Inman, at the Roseland Skating Rink where they went on to skate as
a pair competitively. After graduating from high school, he continued his
education at University of Pittsburgh where he was a member of ROTC.
After leaving University of Pittsburgh, Ron became employed at Bethlehem
Steel. At that point, Ron and Joyce became inseparable and they married
on Valentine’s day in 1959. Not long after they had their first child, a baby
girl, named Pamela Carol Jones.
He took advantage of an employment opportunity that would take him 200
miles away from his home. Leaving his wife and child behind, he went to
work at Aberdeen Proving Ground as an Artillery Inspector. Once he was
able to establish a home, he moved his wife and child to Aberdeen
Maryland where they established new roots permanently joining this new
community. In 1964, the couple had another child, a baby boy, Michael
Allen Jones and in 1971 a baby girl arrived, Tracey Lynn Jones.
Being an avid musician, Ron became a founding member of a band named
The Epic’s. This would become his weekend activity. The band would go on
to play local venues for many years. In addition to playing music, he had a
passion for bowling. He played on a team in a competitive league for many
years, even becoming a member of the United States Bowling Congress
(USBC). He also enjoyed gardening and fishing. He was a sports fan with
his favorite teams being the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Ravens.
His greatest joy, however, was his family. The family would gather for
Sunday dinner every week even after grandchildren were born. In the
summer, the family would go boating and would often vacation together at
the beach and Deep Creek lake. He was the patriarch of the family. The
family would look to him for many things. He was very resourceful. The
family would jokingly call him “MacGyver” from the TV show, because of his
unconventional problem solving.
Pop pop (as he was later known) was a patient, kind and loving man. He
loved to talk and connect to people. He was genuinely interested in others
well being. His generosity was enormous. He proved that over and over in
his lifetime. The memories created will be shared and treasured but the
family will never be the same without him.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 10-11am at the
Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home. P.A. where a funeral service will be
conducted at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Harford Memorial Gardens.
