John "Jack" Francis Egan

June 20, 1931 - February 01, 2025

Obituary

Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. He was 93.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John F. and Elsie (Ryan) Egan and husband of the late Mary (DiBlasi) Egan.

Mr. Egan proudly served his country in the US Airforce during the Korean War. After his service, Jack went to college at Ithaca earning his bachelor’s in history and then proceeded to work as a civilian for the US Army making training videos.

Mr. Egan loved baseball – he grew up supporting the Brooklyn Dodgers and had fond memories of seeing them at Ebbets Field and even walked on to try out for the team before joining the Airforce. He supported the Dodgers until they left for LA in 1957. When Jack moved to Maryland with his family, he became a Baltimore Orioles fan and instilled the love of baseball in his late son, John Anthony Egan. Jack cherished his memories of taking his son to see the Orioles at Memorial Stadium. And when his grandsons were born, he would take them to see the Orioles and Aberdeen IronBirds.

Aside from taking his family to baseball games, Mr. Egan also found joy in the quiet comforts of taking his late wife, Mary Egan, out to dinner and spending time helping her piece together puzzles, all of which he had framed for her once completed. Additionally, he loved collecting model trains and growing the little village he kept in his basement.

He is survived by his grandchildren, Anthony J. Egan, Dr. Nicholas A. Egan, and Stephanie G. LasCasas; great grandchildren, Lou Francis Egan and Bonnie Marie Egan; brother Jerome Egan. In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son John A. Egan in 1995 and his sister, Jane Ashfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens.

Jack was not simply my supervisor but a friend. We went to many “O”s games and I will cherish our opening day and World Series adventures as we attempt to get tickets. He was an outstanding civilian supervisor for a young soldier who had ambitions of becoming a TV director. He in trusted me to perform these duties well beyond my enlisted rank. When I left the service I hoped to someday return and work for him as a civilian but alas it never worked out. Something I regret.
