During his military service, he was stationed in Germany, Texas, California, and Maryland, where he retired as a Sergeant First Class after 24 years of active duty. He went on to be employed as a security guard at Harford Community College and retired after 11 years in 1986. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marta from Bel Air, a son, Michael Bordelon and his wife, Carole from Greenbelt, a daughter, Linda Bullis and her husband Gerry from Fallston, and a daughter, Shirley Berends Querns and her husband Ronald from Havre de Grace. We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Nelson. He was so kind to us from the moment we moved across the street. Having moved from Baltimore City, he thought me how to cut the grass properly and made sure my curb was weed free. We will truly miss seeing him on his mower pulling water from the stream to water his flowers. And the picture perfectly captures how we will always remember him.
