Obituary

Helen Elizabeth (Gallion) Knight, affectionately known as "Betty," of Churchville, Maryland was born on September 21, 1936, in Churchville, Maryland, to the late Russell E. and Marie (Wirsing) Gallion. Betty passed away at Citizens Care Center on April 18, 2025, surrounded by family. She was 88.

A devoted lifelong member of Churchville Presbyterian Church, Betty found strength and community in her faith. She was a member of the Susquehanna Swingers Square Dance Club, lifetime member of the Rainbow Rebekah Lodge, and a member of the Churchville Seniors Club.

Betty met the love of her life, George Knight, while working at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). Betty retired from APG in 1991. She and George shared many wonderful and adventure filled years together, before his passing in 2014.

Betty had a generous and adventurous spirit, especially evident in the time she spent camping with her nieces and nephews—memories they continue to hold dear. Betty had a love for life’s simple pleasures: playing bingo, card games, reading all kinds of books, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles, attending dinner shows, and enjoying meals out with family.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband George, Betty was predeceased by her brothers Lewis, Earl, Russell, and Phillip Gallion; sister in laws Charlotte and Ardna Gallion; and her nephew Nolan Gallion, III.

Betty is survived by her brothers Nolan W. Gallion, Sr. and Joseph Gallion (Carol), sister-in-law Mary Lou Gallion, and many adoring nieces and nephews, all of whom will remember her warmth, kindness, and laughter.

Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Services honoring her life will be held at 11:00 am Monday April 28, 2025 at Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, 333 S. Parke St., Aberdeen, MD 21001 with a visitation beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow at Churchville Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Churchville Presbyterian Church.

Aunt Betty you will be dearly missed. I will miss bingo nights and you asking me if I’m staying out of trouble or if I was causing trouble like you. I love you so much and hope you and Uncle George are together in heaven.

My heart goes out to the family. I did not have the pleasure of knowing this beautiful lady, I am a colleague of Amelia. Please know your loved one is now "complete" and in the care of her Savior who loves her dearly. I will continue to pray for your family, I truly understand loss. May God bless and keep you always.
