Obituary

With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dorothy Davis Blevins at the age of 79. She passed peacefully on 10 September 2026 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Atlantic City, NJ on 15 December 1946, she was the eldest child of Edward M. Davis, Sr. and Esther Elizabeth Davis (nee Vicari). After developing health issues in 2020 and dealing with limited medical interventions available that year, she finally received a Metastatic Breast Cancer diagnosis in April 2021.

Dorothy is survived by her brother, Edward M. Davis, Jr. and sister, Donna M. Deller (and her family). Daughter, Denise Alexis Blevins Ward and son-in-law, Paul X. Ward. Granddaughter, Brittni Alexis Van Ward and granddaughter-in-law, Amanda M. Van Ward. Great-grandson, August Jones Van Ward and great-grandaughter, Theodora Regina Van Ward. Niece, J. Michelle Davis and her mother, Deborah Simmons. Along with other cherished Vicari/Brogan/Davis/Blevins family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Esther Davis; her husband, E. Darrell Blevins; and her lifelong best friend, Alexis L. Brand.

When Dorothy was very young, her family moved from Philadelphia, PA to Havre de Grace, MD. She has been a Havre de Grace resident since then. She attended elementary school in Havre de Grace and the upper grades in Aberdeen due to school district lines between HdG and Aberdeen. After graduating from Aberdeen High School, she worked various jobs doing customer service and book keeping. She then became an owner/operator at the Aberdeen Cab Co. for several years. After selling her cabs, she worked a few years in retail sales and then as a home caregiver before becoming an office manager at an automotive sales company.

She retired in 2021 after receiving her MBC diagnosis to spend time with her family. Thankfully she was able to enjoy time with her two great-grandchildren born after her diagnosis. Dorothy loved being a grandma and great-grandma more than anything. Affectionately called "Mungra" by Brit when she was learning to talk, the name stayed and it became Dorothy's greatest joy to also hear her great-grandchildren calling her Mungra.

Dorothy loved building and/or refurbishing wood furniture; taking many pieces from trash to treasures. She also enjoyed reading, drawing, yardsales, sudoku puzzles, and fishing. She loved helping others and rescuing animals. She will definitely be remembered for her independent and strong-willed personality.

Dorothy graduated from Aberdeen High School in the Class of 1965. After attending her 25th reunion, she then became very involved with planning all 1965 class reunions and get-togethers. She truly enjoyed seeing everyone. She was especially excited about the Aberdeen Eaglefest All Alumni Reunion event started in 2022. Unfortunately, she was never able to attend, but enjoyed seeing all the pictures.

Per her request, there will not be a viewing or funeral service. Her wish was for people to remember her in the happy moments she shared with them and for everyone to live life fully without regrets. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to an animal rescue of your choice or a check/money order written to Eaglefest and mailed to:

Denise. Such a beautiful picture of your mom. Thank you so much for including Nicky( Alexis Brand) in the obituary as her lifelong best friend. Just reading that makes me cry. Those two were always together.. I remember when Nicky passed Dorothy said she better have a cup of coffee waiting for me. I know the two of them are in heaven sitting there kicked back drinking that coffee. My mom told me when a really good friend of mine mother died, she said “ you know she just didn’t lose her mother. She lost her best friend. “ it’s true. They’re the one person that knew you forever.. I’m holding you very close to my heart ❤️ Charlene

Denise and family, I’m very sorry for your loss. I knew Dorothy from Aberdeen Communities Together (ACT). She and I were among the original group that fought the Wetlands Annexation. She was a loved and valued member of the group. She was very dedicated as well as a kind and caring lady. We were Facebook friends but I have not seen her since 2018 when I moved to SC. I have warm memories of her and am saddened by this news. I pray God will give you comfort and peace as your family goes through the grieving process.
