Obituary for Hazel S. Archer

Hazel Hessney Archer of Aberdeen, Maryland died peacefully after a short illness, surrounded by family, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Sunday, July 2. Hazel would have been 96 years old next month. She was married for 55 years to Major Bruce Archer, Jr. who died in 2000. Hazel was a long-time, active member of the Aberdeen Church of Christ, where as recently as this summer was co-chair of the Vacation Bible School cookie committee. She was a beloved teacher's aide at John Archer School, and volunteer at Harford Memorial Hospital. She and her husband, Bruce, served for many years as volunteers for Meals on Wheels delivering hundreds of meals to those in need across Harford County, as well as TAP, an outreach program to check in with elderly shut-ins. Hazel was a first generation American, the third child of six from Syrian immigrants Abraham and Eva Hessney.

There will be a viewing at Tarring-Cargo on Thursday, July 6 (3-5 pm, and 7-9 pm). She will be buried August 3, 2017 at 10:00 am with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
