Bettie Tenney Quigg Garvey of Joppa died Friday, April 13 at the Sen. Bob Hooper House. She was 79.
Born in Gap Mills, WV she was the daughter of the late Rev. Albert Law & Viola (Gooden) Tenney, Sr. and wife of the late Thomas Garvey.
Mrs. Garvey taught vocal music for over 30 years at various public schools in Harford County. An active member of Grace United Methodist Church, she was a long time member of the Sanctuary Choir, their former organist, Children’s Choir Director and was a member of the Ann Kemper Circle. She enjoyed singing, basket weaving and quilting.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy L. Quigg and wife Carol of Sykesville, MD and Thomas L. Quigg, Sr. and Heather Steinhilber of Aberdeen; daughter, Wynee Q. Bays and Nicholas Birch of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Jesse Bays, Justin Bays and Gina Green, Jennifer Bays Curry and husband Brian, Megan and Ryan Quigg, Thomas Quigg, Jr., Donald Spedden, Jr. and Garrett Foucault; great granddaughter, Savannah Curry; siblings, Paul Tenney of CA and Jean Warner of TN; ex-husband, Ellwood T. Quigg of Baltimore, sister-in-law, Helen Tenney of FL; brother-in-law, William H. Payne of Blacksburg, VA and 33 nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, Dr. James and Alma Cox of TX, Wayman and Lena Cousins of IL, John and Ina Hershman of WV, Rev. James and Wilda Chenoweth of Charleston, WV, Joe and Meda Harrison of Rennick, WV, Agnes Payne of Blacksburg, VA, Albert and Wanda Tenney of Charleston, WV and Thomas Tenney of St. Augustine, FL.
A visitation will be held at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 18th from 7-9pm. A funeral service conducted by Dr. Robert Clipp will be held at Grace United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 19th at 11:00am. Interment will be in Harford Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jesse and Justin Bays, Ryan and Thomas Quigg, Jr., Garrett Foucault and Brian Curry. Contributions in her memory may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 110 W. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen, MD 21001.
